Voices of the Past
Length: 6hr class
Skill level: All levels
Working with any of the reproduction fabrics and Voices of the Past volume I or II, you will create your treasured piece from the past using these reproduction fabrics. We will discuss pattern choices suitable for this period and will explore quick piecing options and techniques. Appliqué borders will be discussed. You should leave class with a plan for your own quilt and some finished blocks. We¹ll explore sashings and settings. Travels into the past visiting my books Voices of the Past will inspire you to begin this project.
Voices of the Past
A variety of quilt patterns from the past will be discussed, all with the focus of working
with reproduction fabrics to create an “old” looking quilt. You can of course use any
style of fabric you choose. I recommend at least two-three yards of a focus fabric, 2-3
yards of assorted backgrounds or the same ground and 1/2 yard of two or three medium
or dark accent fabrics. I love working with scraps and this allows you considerable
freedom to do so. If in doubt about your fabric choices, just bring lots of stuff and we’ll
make it work. If you are choosing a stripe I recommend three yards to allow more
options. Most importantly, this class is for anyone that loves fabric. In addition to your
fabrics, you will need the following supplies; Our focus will be of studying blocks that
represent famous women from our past.
Sewing machine in good working condition
all rotary cutting equipment, mat, rulers, cutter
Easy Angle and Companion Angle (optional)
any basic sewing supplies you like to have on hand when you work
reducing glass (optional)
value seeker (red glass)
notebook/pencil
camera (to remember those other great quilts)
